Our Story
Makarandam is an online dance studio dedicated to celebrating and spreading the serene beauty of Mohiniyattam and the enchanting grace of semiclassical dance. Our mission is to inspire, educate, and create a community where dance becomes a soulful journey of expression and devotion.
Founded by Malavika M Nair, Makarandam is built on a strong foundation of passion and dedication towards the art of Mohiniyattam. Malavika has pursued her Master’s degree in Mohiniyattam and is a proud disciple of the renowned danseuse Guru Dr. Neena Prasad, the creator of the unique and refined Sougandhika style of Mohiniyattam.
At Makarandam, Malavika carries forward this rich legacy, blending traditional techniques with her distinctive artistic vision. With her graceful command over Mohiniyattam and her captivating charm in semiclassical dance, she offers students a deeply enriching learning experience that nurtures both technique and expression.

Guru's Journey

Beginning
Began Mohiniyattam training at age 3 under Guru Kalamandalam Vasantha.
Advanced Training
Trained under Dr. RLV Ramakrishnan (Mohiniyattam) and Guru Geetha Padamakumar (Kuchipudi).
First Performances
Started professional stage performances.
Academic Excellence
Completed MA in Mohiniyattam (2nd Rank) from Kalady Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University.
Gurukula Training
Joined Dr. Neena Prasad at Sougandhika for Gurukula Sambradaya training.
Performances & Recognition
Performed in major productions and festivals; received JanakiNath Durga Bandaru Award.
Teaching
Began teaching students at Sougandhika Center.
